Porthampton put on a sterling effort at home this week against Donswich, pulling away early in the first half and not letting the Dons back into the game.

The first attempt came in the 17th minute from a set piece from three yards outside the penalty area. Ravenhall’s cross just outside the six yard box was met by Harris, who would have had the first goal of the game if not for being flagged offside.

Jackson continued his recent good form, adding two more goals to his season tally. His first of the match, a deft dummy of Dons defender Phillip Hesseltain left the striker with a clear shot towards the left post, the Dons keeper, off his mark, was only able to brush the ball with his fingertips as it sailed by.

Jackson’s second goal came in the 34th minute from a corner kick. Dons keeper Paul Ericsson’s fumbled save, left the defence struggling to try and clear the ball from the 6 yard box while Jackson slid in and scooped the ball into the net.

Donswich tried to claim a consolation goal in the second half from a mistimed pass by Austin, leaving forward James Hand in a one on one with Gibson. Hand tried a chip over the oncoming keeper but was denied by Gibson’s outstretched glove.

The result at Donswich sees Porthampton with a 16-8-4 record for the season so far.
